Clara Brown
Formerly enslaved woman who reached Central City, Colorado in 1859, opened what is described as Colorado's first commercial laundry, and invested in lots, cabins and mining claims. She used the proceeds to fund travel and housing for Black migrants, support churches and schools, and search for her scattered family.
